Effective January 1, 2026, New Jersey has increased its mandatory minimum auto insurance liability limits to $35,000 for bodily injury per person, $70,000 for bodily injury per accident, and $25,000 for property damage. This final phase of the 2022 reform (P.L.2022, c. 87) applies to new and renewing policies. This update marks the second phase of the insurance reform aimed at addressing higher vehicle repair and medical costs, following the first increase on January 1, 2023. These changes affect nearly 1.2 million drivers in New Jersey, with rate increases estimated to be significant for those previously carrying minimum coverage. However remember, CHEAP COVERAGE IS ONLY A BARGAIN TILL YOU NEED TO USE IT!
